[“I want to protect things that need to be protected.” An honest personality like his is really charismatic]

Profile
Born on February 11, 1990. Debuted in 2008 as a member of 2PM. After debuting as a male actor in <Unstoppable, High Kick> (2006), apart from music, he has been developing and advancing in many other areas.

Romance, comedy, action -- a well-developed project that involves many eye-catching scenes

As a remake of the hit film <My Girlfriend Is an Agent> in 2009, the drama series <Level 7 Civil Servant> was introduced in 2013. It unveils the unknown, mysterious side of the mask worn by NIS (National Intelligence Service) agents in an informative manner as well as expressing the various troubles and love stories developed by the main characters through the light and humorous plot. As a result, the drama has become the latest discussion topic among the public. In this drama, the protagonist, Han Gil Ro (played by Joo Won) and Kim Seo Won (played by Choi Kang Hee) are rookie NSI agents, alongside the ace agent from the Special Forces – Gong Doha who is played by 2PM’s Chansung.

“Gong Doha as a character is a reserved person. Always wanting to protect what he thinks needs protecting and he has a ‘no-compromise' honest personality. Sometimes it makes him seem extremely cool and charismatic but sometimes it makes you think, 'Ah, can you not be that extreme?' You would feel concerned for this character (laughs). As I was acting out as Gong Doha, I studied Jason Bourne (played by Matt Damon) in <The Bourne> series. Although he seemed pretty ordinary, he was able to reveal a hidden kind of charisma… I studied that sort of feeling and appeal. But I’m not sure whether I was able to replicate to that standard or not (laughs). I will have to rely on the audience’s comments (laughs)."

Chansung, whose character is a very capable yet reserved and strict agent, shows a very different image in the drama compared to the cheerful and outgoing personality everyone is used to seeing on variety programs. The common factor between Gong Doha and Chansung is that both guys are not good at lying.

“What's similar between me and Gong Doha is that we’re both very bad at lying. Personally, I’m not good at making up lies. Even if I try, I’d be caught right away (laughs). Then I’d apologize immediately saying, “I’m so sorry.” (laughs) I think that we're quite similar on that point. But I’m not like Gong Doha who doesn’t understand the concept of compromise. If I ever feel that I can learn something useful, even if I have to change my original mindset and perspective, I will compromise and learn as much as I can. However, Gong Doha is a person will never compromise with himself. He will follow his original ways of thinking and values to the very end, never willing to do anything that defies his values or beliefs. Yet this may also be the reason why this character, Gong Doha, is full of charisma.”

Chansung debuted as a male actor back in 2006 but this is the first time that he's acting out a love story. Chansung shyly admitted, “Because it’s my first time participating in a love story, I really didn’t know how to express each line with the passion and emotion that was necessary.” Chansung’s character gets involved in a complex relationship involving Joo Won and Choi Kang Hee as well as having love lines between Choi Kang Hee and Kim Min Seo.

“(To be able to get involved in a love triangle relationship, Gong Doha is) a very lucky person ~ (laughs). You may live several lifetimes and still never be such a situation (laughs). But if it was me… hmmm... how should I say this? I wouldn’t maintain such a dubious relationship with both females and continue to be so indecisive, instead I would sincerely analyze my own feelings and decide which one I truly love the most.”

On that note, what qualities in a female would make your heart flutter?

“A girl who appreciates and acknowledges the importance of whatever I do seems pretty good~ although it’s a great feeling knowing that I'm the only one in my partner’s eyes, placing me in first in her heart brings some kind of burden as well (laughs). It’s alright for her to place herself first and then your family. I’m fine as long as I’m in the 3rd or 4th place in my partner’s heart. If it’s below 5th place… then this will require some thinking (laughs). But if she can enjoy life and I can be part of the happiness in her life, I’m already content. To have a lover who can allow me to continuously deepen my understanding of her, as our relationship extends longer, would be great.”

Chansung, as a member of the rising, world-class idol group, 2PM, is also known as actor – Hwang Chansung. Regarding this vast entertainment area that allows for continuous talent expansion, what are the charms of being a singer and actor for Chansung?

“Whether being a singer or an actor, we have to display a certain kind of emotion in different situations. But singers have to express a lot of emotion and meaning in the few lines of the lyrics in a 3-4 minute song. If you manage to touch the hearts of those listening to the song, you may succeed. The emotions expressed in such a short moment are very intense. But for actors, you have to make the audience feel that the storyline in the drama/film is actually happening to you and transmitting the emotions of the character to the audience. Actors rely on the realistic emotional aspect to express themselves. Whether it’s being a singer or an actor, both professions have their individual charms. Not just in <Level 7 Civil Servant>, I hope that everyone will be able to see me perform in different dramas and films in the future. Please anticipate 2PM’s and my own future activities!”

This drama involves a romantic and entertaining storyline revolving around the characters within the NIS. Chansung plays the role of Gong Doha – an honest, courageous, fair, and highly skilled agent from the Special Forces who gets tangled in a love triangle with Kim Seo Won (played by Choi Kang Hee) and Han Gil Ro (played by Joo Won). Filled with action-packed, intense action scenes and an interesting love story, this drama is a must watch.

In this drama, Chansung and his crush, Choi Kang Hee, have an age difference of over ten years. Regarding Choi Kang Hee, who has such an age difference with him, Chansung stated, “Kang Hee noona actually looks significantly younger (laughs). What’s most important is that, in reality during a conversation she wouldn’t give you the impression that there’s any age difference between us. Although she can be quite weird at certain times, it was great to get to know her.”

[News] 2PM's Nichkhun and Lee Yong Dae to reunite for a badminton match on 'Our Neighborhood Arts and Physical Education'

2PM's Nichkhun and Olympic athlete Lee Yong Dae will reunite and show off their badminton skills on 'Our Neighborhood Arts and Physical Education'!

A rep from 'Our Neighborhood Arts and Physical Education' told MBN on the 27th, "We will film a 'Badminton Returns' special on December 18... The guests will be Lee Yong Dae, badminton coach Park Joo Bong, and Nichkhun."

Nichkhun previously floored the cast of the show with his badminton skills back in July and will return for a real competition with Lee Yong Dae and former Badminton athlete Park Joo Bong who will join them as a coach.

The 'Badminton Returns' special will air on January 7 KST!

[News] ‘Marriage Blue’ 2PM Taec-yeon "It was not hard to shoot love scene with Lee Yeon-hee” (interview)

2PM's Ok Taec-yeon (24) debuted as a film actor. He played a star chef Won-cheol on 'Marriage Blue' (directed by Hong Ji-young, produced by Soo Film), a film about marriage blue (the psychological anxiety or stress experienced by people who are getting married) that four couples experience a week ahead of their wedding ceremony. He became Won-cheol who believes that “marriage is life” while containing his boiling energy for a while.

The film has already drawn great attention with the combination of director Hong Ji-yeong from 'Kitchen' and Soo Film well-known for production of romantic comedies of 'All about My Wife' and 'Finding Mr. Kim’. The ‘romantic comedy version of Avengers’ features famous actors such as Kim Kang-woo, Kim Hyo-jin, Joo Ji-hoon, Lee Yeon-hee, Ok Taec-yeon, Ma Dong-seok, Guzal, Lee Hee-joon, and Go Joon-hee.

Ok Taec-yeon, who debuted through this film, was not outshone by the outstanding senior actors with his own presence and aura. He infused life into his character Won-cheol with detailed emotion acting as a calm man compared to the other lively male characters such as a baseball coach (Kim Kang-woo), an innocent bachelor of a flower shop Geon-ho (Ma Dong-suk), an employee of a urology clinic and mommy’s boy Dae-bok (Lee Hee-jun), and a gravel guide of Jeju Island Gyeong-su (Joo Ji-hoon).

"The 2PM members and producer Park Jin-young told me that they enjoyed the film. When I first read the scenario, I had a different feel for Won-choel from the film. He was a more remote man for So-mi (Lee Yeon-hee) than now. He valued work more than love. I understood the character through discussions with director Hong, Whenever I faced difficulty in understanding the character, I sent a message to her and she sent me a long line of messages (laughter)."

Director Hong highly complimented Ok Taec-yeon in an interview with TV Report. She said, "He is such a promising actor. He confidently admits his weaknesses and makes endless efforts. Most of all, he is not like an idol star. He is very easy-going. He took care of the staff members by memorizing the name of each of them.”

When heard about director Hong’s praise, Ok Taec-yeon said with his signature polite smile on his face, "It is nothing to be praised about.” He said, “I believe that you can achieve a better result once you get close to staff members. Particularly, they are those who make a film together with me. I may meet them again in my next project. I can ask them about my weaknesses in acting once I get close to them. The same goes to stage.”

Won-choel and So-mi, who have dated for seven years, come to face a dramatic event a week away their wedding ceremony. So-mi confused with her feelings where she is not excited for Won-cheol meets Gyeong-su in Jeju Island where she went for a contest. A triangular relationship is created among So-mi, Won-choel in Seoul, and Geyong-su in Jeju. Won-choel has a disadvantage in appealing to the audience with his charm compared to Geyong-su, who will appear against the beautiful scenery of Jeju. Director Hong added the charm through cooking and fluent Russian speaking skills and the strategy worked.

"I thought about what charm Won-cheol will be able to show to viewers. It was a sense of 'stability’. He may be a boring man, but I wanted him to approach viewers in a more familiar feel. Speaking Russian was very challenging. I was sort of tutored by Guzal. I started to get nervous three days before shooting. I listened to a Russian tape over and over.”

Director Hong conveyed a subtle feel between a man and a woman through 'Marriage Blue'. According to her, "The love scenes that are sensual without exposure and express excitement of the two people” makes viewers fall into the film. Particularly, the love scene of Won-cheol and So-mi shows the climax of tension when they meet in Jeju for the first time since So-mi is shaken by Gyeong-su.

"It took about two hours to shoot the scene. It was not hard. I did not think that I should lead an actress because I am a male actor. I had talked about it a lot with the director and the actress. There was no speaking line, but we created one during the shooting. We shot the scene three times. I feel relieved to hear that the scene is beautiful (laughter).”

He described himself as “a person who does not set Ok Taec-yeon apart from an idol star Ok Taec-yeon.” He went on a package tour to the Vatican City, uses a bike and a public transport, receives allowances from parents, and reads the novel ‘Goguryeo’ by Kim Jin-myung despite a busy schedule. He is far apart from what the public usually think about an idol star.

"I do not set myself from an idol star Ok Taec-yeon. I do not want to hear that I have changed. My students from high school say that I became more stylish than before (laughter). I am concerned, however, when ugly pictures are released on the internet since my agency (JYP Entertainment) expects a certain value from me as an idol star.”

When asked, “Why do you keep yourself so busy?”, Ok Taec-yeon, who has recently entered the Graduate School of International Studies of Korea University said, "I want to live crazy for work. Now, I put work first. That is why I entered the graduate school and keep myself busy. How I plan my life now determines the rest of my life. I have not met a crucial turning point for my life yet, but I always try to enjoy myself. I am sad that I could not do such things that other people in my age enjoy such as a blind date or a long march through the national land.”

2AM’s Lim Seul-ong, 2PM’s Ok Taec-yeon and Hwang Chan-sung fell into frustration to see the result of a test.

On November 25, Lim Seul-ong posted a comment on his Twitter account. He said, "The chances of Lim Seul-ong having a girlfriend by Christmas are 0%. Impossible.” There is a link to a test to predict the future with a name. The test tells the possibility of having a girl/boyfriend by Christmas through one’s name.

Lim Seul-ong was frustrated to see the test result of 0%. 2PM’s Ok Taec-yeon and Hwang Chan-sung said that they also got 0%. They lamented their ill luck by saying, "What is wrong? We have quite a nice appearance.”

Cho Kwon said out of excitement, "I got 200%." Han Bo-reum said, "I have just taken the test and I got 73%. I am about to cry. I have a hope now.” Actor Lee Jung-jin from the same JYP agency burst into laughter after seeing the comments of Lim Seul-ong, Ok Taec-yeon, and Hwang Chan-sung.
