[News] 2PM Taecyeon Says He is Open to Dating Taiwanese Actress Gui Gui, But She Says?

2PM's Taecyeon and Taiwanese actress Gui Gui who are on MBC's virtual marriage show, 'We Got Married - Global Edition,' were asked whether they were open to dating the other person in real life.

Simply put, they disagreed.

Blurting out their responses on a count of three, Taecyeon said yes while Gui Gui said no. Gui Gui had some explaining to do, of course, and stated, "I did not think Taecyeon would say yes. I said no because we live different lives in different countries. I saw Taecyeon being disappointed for the first time."

Taecyeon had a few words to say after the incident. He commented, "I thought we were making great memories and spending quality time together. So I was feeling like this was leading to something better but maybe Gui Gui just does not see it that way." Obviously let down by her response, Taecyeon said, "If she is looking at this as a dead end, what do I do?"

'We Got Married - Global Edition' pairs up celebrities from different cultures and puts them through pretend marriages in order to better understand the gap between various cultural diversities. Currently, FTISLAND Lee Hong Ki and Japanese actress Fujii Mina are also on the show.

The episode will air on May 12.

[News] 2AM Changmin, 2PM Jun.K, Wonder Girls Yeeun Will Take Their Musical Talents To Japan

The recent trend among K-Pop idols is starring in on-stage musicals, and three of JYP Entertainment's finest, Changmin, Jun.K, and Yeeun are taking it a step further. The three singers have been cast in the Three Musketeers, but they will soon go international and hit the stage in Japan.

Due to the tremendous popularity of the musical in Korea, with over 160,000 tickets sold in just about three years, the producers of the Three Musketeers have decided to bring the show overseas to Japan.

The three idols will perform in a total of 25 performances at the Bunkamura Orchard Hall in Tokyo from August 10 to 25.

The musical's promoter, Sem Company, has high hopes for the show which is full of many big name Korean stars. In addition to Changmin, Jun.K, and Yeeun, the Three Musketeers will also star actor Um Ki-joon from Dream High and Gentleman's Dignity singer-actor Kim Min-jong.

The theater seats over 2,000 people and is expected to sell out the performances because of the high star quality of the actors involved in the production.

Changmin's 2AM group mate Jo Kwon is also receiving high praise for his debut musical Jesus Christ Superstar, which is now playing in Seoul at the Charlotte Theater.

For his first musical role Jo Kwon is playing the part of King Herod, and he is the youngest actor ever to do so.

The 2AM balladeer is well liked for his friendly charisma on stage and bright sense of humor. He is also fairly androgynous making him an ideal choice for Herod, a character with a similar image.

Idol singers in Korea have long been tampering in the acting realm with many having starred in films, television dramas, and reality shows. But as musicals throughout the country gain more popularity, many young stars see them as a way to improve not just their singing abilities and acting skills, but also their on-stage personas.

Before the April 26 opening of Jesus Christ Superstar, Jo Kwon participated in a press conference along with the other actors in the musical. When asked why he had chosen to take part in the production he said that playing Herod was a good opportunity for him to express more of his talent in a new way.

Musical theater appears to be a nice way for these JYP stars to expand their talent and their fan base and we wish them all the best of luck!

[Review][Single] 2PM “All Day I Think of You”

It’s been nearly two years since 2PM promoted their last Korean single, “Hands Up” in June of 2011. In the meantime, a number of JYP Entertainment acts have released some fantastic singles, setting high hopes for 2PM’s eventual return. Did it live up to expectations?

“All Day I Think of You” has a lot going for it. The orchestra instrumental is nice, the song is catchy, and for the most part the guys sound great- the singers are singing, the rappers are rapping, and there are no awkward vocal parts for the non-singing members (I’m looking at you, “Come Back When You Hear This Song“). A few poor choices, like the robot voice in the chorus, the random dubstep stutters scattered throughout the song, make the song sound a little dated, while Nichkhun‘s falsetto part should probably have gone to someone with a more pleasant upper register. Taecyeon‘s pitched-down rapping over the bridge could have just been omitted altogether. Despite those few sticking points, the song has a really nice, cool vibe to it and makes for an enjoyable listen.

The video for “All Day I Think of You”, however, is mediocre at best. There are some good points- the strong contrasts in the black and white video set the right moody atmosphere, and the parts of the choreography where they’re actually sitting in the chairs are great. Unfortunately, this is offset by the less-than-stellar remainder of the video.  The dance sequences are a bit odd – why are the members of 2PM doing a StairMaster dance against the backs of chairs right after their entrance? The highlight dance with their backs to the camera and their hands resting on their bouncing hips look a bit weird, it’s a bit too too feminine for our resident ‘beastly’ idols, especially when they’re trying to show us how they’ve grown up.
The individual cuts with the guys sitting next to sexy girls in skimpy dresses who’ve had their heads cropped out of the scene are cliche at best. Then there’s the “romantic” scenes- There’s a lot of cuddling and nuzzling and heavy breathing happening, and some implied undressing, but nothing else. It’s the kind of thing that works when it’s parsed sparingly into a video as part of the story line (think Big Bang‘s “Tonight“), but four straight minutes of wink-wink-nod-nod-they-totally-did-something-off-screen gets boring real quick and feels somewhat juvenile.

The sad thing about this comeback, however, is that it feels like 2PM would have released “All Day I Think of You” exactly as it is, even if they had never had that two year hiatus and had come back in 2012 as originally planned. Quite frankly, we wanted to see the triumphant return of the legends, not just any ordinary comeback. We wanted a “Keep Your Head Down” or a “Blue“/”Bad Boy“/”Fantastic Baby” combo or even a “Countryside Diary“. Even a “Miss Korea” would have been great, or they could have taken a cue from western music and given us a “Suit & Tie“. Something that didn’t just say ‘we’re back‘, but that reminded us of just how much we missed them and showed us just how far they’d come while they were gone. The market was pretty saturated when 2PM was at the top of their game; it’s an even bigger pond now, and it’s not enough to just have been the best at some point. Acts have to constantly re-establish that they deserve to be where they are or they’ll get replaced by the next group waiting in line to take their place.

“All Day I Think of You” could have been a perfect showcase for 2PM’s grand return to the music scene- instead, it feels somewhat phoned-in and not all that special. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a good song, and it’ll certainly sell and chart well, but, we’ll always be left wondering what might have been if this comeback had been given the weight it truly deserved.

[News] 2PM reflects on Nichkhun’s drunk driving scandal

After 2PM‘s Nichkhun was sentenced for driving under the influence last year, the boy group revealed that the incident had made a large impact on their lives together.

For their comeback special ‘2PM Returns‘ on MBC, Nichkhun was interviewed on his scandal last year. “I’ll never forget that day,” he said. “I thought that I wasn’t human. I was so sorry to my fans and the members, I cried in front of them for the first time. I’m a foreigner, yet my fans accept me and pour out their love for me. But I felt like I betrayed and disappointed them. All I kept thinking about was how much my fans must be hurting.

We had never taken a break after our debut,” Taecyeon remembered. “But after that, all of our schedules were gone. We were initially asked, ‘How about promoting without Nichkhun?’ But it doesn’t make sense to come back as a five-member group.

Jun.K shared, “There were talks about possibly promoting as a subunit. But we all rejected the offer. We want to come back as six members.

Even though it was a mistake, wrongdoing is wrongdoing,” Chansung said. “We might think badly on them for making a mistake, but at that time, I think that Nichkhun hyung himself was very dear to us.

We’ll work hard to bring back all of the fans that went away,” Nichkhun promised.
