[News] CJ E&M to Take Chinese Drama Starring 2PM′s Nichkhun to the World

CJ E&M will be promoting the export of Chinese dramas.

The firm recently took up the spot of project advisor and overseas distributor for the Chinese drama One and a Half, Summer, which stars 2PM's Nichkhun.

The drama is a 30-episode piece about the love, friendship and dreams of college students. It is being produced by Beijing Creative Culture and Media, and CJ E&M will be advisor for its script as well as its distribution overseas.

One and a Half, Summer stars Nichkhun and miss A's Jia, as well as Chinese idol Jingfu Jiang of A Wedding Invitation.

Nichkhun will appear as a Chinese American, who flies to China to search for his lover. Jia will be a student studying to be an accountant, a girl who only cares for her studies.

CJ E&M has been scoring with the film A Wedding Invitation, a collaboration between Korea and China. It earned over 190 million yuan (approximately 36.4 billion won or 32 million USD) in the market. Its ventures with One and a Half, Summer mark the next step in its partnership with China.

A rep from CJ E&M said, "Dramas starring youth have been rising in popularity in China as the generation born in the 1980s and 1990s have taken over as the lead players in pop culture. Local reviews have been favorable toward One and a Half, Summer since before its production. We expect it to be a success worldwide."

The drama will start filming in July 15. It will hold a press conference on July 24, and start airing in summer 2014 in China after wrapping up shoots in October.

[News] 2PM’s Nickhun And Miss A’s Jia Sign On For Chinese/Korean Drama

Although 2PM’s Nickhun and miss A’s Jia are Korean superstars, they both have an international background. And together they are planning to star in an international production.

Nickhun, who was born in California to Thai-Chinese parents, lived in Thailand, New Zealand and the U.S., before he was scouted at a Los Angeles Korean Music Festival and moved to Korea to pursue a career as a singer. He speaks English, Korean and Mandarin.

Miss A’s Meng Jia is a Chinese singer, actress and model. As miss A’s main rapper and lead dancer, she is one of the best-known Korean celebrities of Chinese origin. Jia speaks Mandarin, Korean and a little English.

Jia has played an important role in miss A’s ongoing popularity in China. The group has performed on numerous variety shows there. Given Jia’s drama plans, they may soon become even more popular in China.

Together she and Nickhun are going to star in an upcoming Chinese/Korean production called “One And A Half Summers” or “Yi You ErFen Zhi Yi De Xia Tian.”

In the young adult drama, Nickhun will play a Chinese-American student who comes to China to study and falls in love with a Chinese girl. The 30-episode romantic drama about finding love and overcoming cultural differences takes place on a college campus.

Filming does not start until July 15 but Nickhun and Jia were seen this week at Jimei University in Xiamen, talking to students. Filming takes place through October at the college and other Chinese locations in Xiamen, Fuzhou and Beijing.

Neither singer has acted in a drama before although they have done drama cameos. Nickhun and Jia both had a cameo in “Dream High” and she also had a cameo in “Dream High 2.”

Nichkhun was cast in the Japanese film “Ouran High School Host Club”and had a supporting role in the Thai film, “Seven Something.”

Although he is happy singing with 2PM, Nickhun admits that it was always his dream to be an actor. He wants it more every time he acts but that doesn’t mean it’s easy.

It really feels different to be in front of a camera as an actor and not a singer,” he said when he was cast in the Thai film. “I’m really trying and I want to be a wonderful actor.

”One And A Half Summers” is set to premiere next summer.

[TRANS] Ticket Pia Exclusive Interview w/ 2PM Jun. K

Ticket Pia Exclusive Interview w/ Jun. K

The musical “The Three Musketeers" was performed three years in a row plus a fourth performance this year which became a big hit. The work, which was turned into a stage play based on a novel with the same name by the greatest writer Alexandre Dumas in France, has been performed repeatedly and loved since its premiere in the Czech Republic in 2004 and will be landing in Japan this summer. In addition, the luxurious stage set and costumes, the story full of humor that describes love and friendship, and highlights such as dramatic musical numbers will never cease. The musical is set in 17th-century France, recounting the adventures of a young man named D’Artagnan who joins three of the Musketeers of the Guard. We interviewed Jun. K (2PM) who plays D’Artagnan in Japan too, following the performances in Korea.

- It was your first time challenging a musical, right?
Yes. I was happy about the offer since I had wanted to appear in a musical for a long time!

- How did you perfect your role for the first performance? Did you receive any advice from your seniors?
When practicing, I was told “You should act while thinking about D’Artagnan’s feelings about why he decided to come to Paris at that time," by Nam Gyeongju senior, who plays Athos. I was able to become D’Artagnan naturally after listening to his advice. Rather than just speaking the lines, I tried to react naturally by listening well to what my partner was saying. Such exchanges with my senior actors are very pleasant, and I think that’s the charm of the stage. It comes naturally to me, mostly due to the many adlibs in “The Three Musketeers" (laughs).

- Jun. K-san’s performances have been receiving good reviews, do you feel your own growth after so many performances? Please tell me if there are any parts you became confident in doing.
Naturally, I perform while identifying myself with D’Artagnan. It seems like the character D’Artagnan is permeated into me… so even until now, I have never regretted performing as him. I got a good review from the audience, and I really appreciate it but there are many things I still have to learn since I’m still a newcomer, so I should take on the role even more. I’ll do my best!

- What is your favorite number and scene?
My favorite song is “Romance of Paris." This is a song full of joyful expectation. In addition to the joy of having friends, you are able to look back at yourself and feel very happy while listening to the song.

- Then, what about your favorite line?
My favorite line is “Justice surely exists." It shows the purpose of D’Artagnan’s actions.

- How did you spend your time with your co-performers in the dressing room?
I shared a dressing room together with Aramis (Kim Minjong) and Porthos (Cho Sunchang), and we talked the whole time. We had a good time making ramen and taking some pictures together.

- The performance in Japan will finally be coming in August. Are there any things that you’re looking forward to other than the stage?
There is a lot of delicious food in Japan…! I’d like to go to the Sweet Forest in Jiyugaoka. And pretty interior shops in Japan too. Actually I recently moved. I’d really like to go touring interior design shops!!
